The Downtown Sports Bar is looking for Musicians to start coming in every Monday at 8:30 to play your music and/or covers. We have all of the sound equipment needed for you to plug in to! All you need to bring is your instrument (guitar, hand drums, etc.)
please no drum sets though. We will give each person that shows up to play a free pint of choice.
We also do a Friday Night Live Session from 7:30-10 that features a different local musician each week. THIS IS A PAID GIG!! Open Mic will be a good way to be selected for that. If you have any further questions feel free to email me. We hope to see you there!

We have a great evening planned tonight @ Volume 11, with featured showcase band 2nd Law, bringing their special brand of kick ass hard rock to the stage @ 10 pm... it also looks like we will also have a few
new bands make their debut at out weekly event...

Thanks for another great Open Mic at the Hideout Bar in Fuquay. We had two great bands down there and a few solo musicians.
Ken Young band rocked the house and had quite a following.
Second Law took the stage later in the evening and played a solid
hard rock set.
Andy Coltrane was in the house and got up and ripped some killer leads. Shaun from Second Law joined me for a few acoustic ones.
Hoping to get a good crowd on Feb 4 and Feb 18 (next two open mics). FSM will play on 2/18...need some acts for 2/4.

The utmost in douchbaggery is the bar who holds an open mic on a Saturday. thats the cheapest way for them to get ANY entertainment on a saturday night. also their busiest..
shows the a$$clown owner isnt interested in paying anyone, anything, anytime.
to ANY artist who plays these, you just pulled your pants down for nothing. not even a kiss. Bendover backwards for your shows. not forwards.
I commend some bars for doing the right thing..allthough not paying much , still paying something.

as someone else posted the only open mic personality thats paid usually is the host.
Ive been to some open mics where they welcome EVERYONE with open arms and are happy to give a 20-30 min slot. Ive also been to some open mics where you basically paid off
or bribed the host for a 10 min slot. (yes this is true and you would be horrified to hear the names. some of those folks are known in the area)
Sometimes if your good the bar will offer you a tues or wed time slot for reduced pay. giving you the chance to build a crowd and possibly get a raise down the road. sometimes not. a lot of it does work exactly as Steve M said, and thats "If **YOU** can bring butts in the seats..." theory. I wouldnt expect much here in this dept at first. most bar owners dont realize how much work goes into ONE show let alone many. they dont care and think because they are paying for you that YOU should be the one doing it all. and open mic is another avenue for the bar to put butts in their seats, they figured theyre doing the work, and you shouldnt be paid for one. a bar will also schedule a horrible band/ artist (vs a good one) in the venue and pay them based on the fact that they have 30 friends that come to get drunk..but these people also leave with that artist(s) probably never to return unless that person/band is playing there again. so it doesnt help the bar much in that direction either.
And to the poster who said suck it up and go put the wedding band back together..this hit a flat (Cb to be exact) note on me especially. anyone whos anyone knows I made a VERY nice living doing weddings. the money is nice, the catering is far better than id get in the kitchen at home or mcdonalds, not to mention I was working for PAID gigs every saturday. most times it was enough to call it a weeks pay. for one night! These folks are musicians too. allthough they choose to play the music they dont like, smile hard, wear a suit , they collect a check at the same time: it doesnt make them less desireable to music. probably makes these folks more desireable to your band based on they can follow direction, show up reliably and are flexible enought to play both "garbage" and "good tunes"(allthough im not sure theres any garbage tunes). those people are the furthest thing from hitting rock bottom. rock bottom is starting at open mics in order to play, or hanging out at the sam ash looking for another "?????" to jam with..(his definetion is very flawed)
bands , duos, and solos are becomming a dying breed in the bars and clubs locally. the younger clientel thats comming into these places now expect the versitility and variety of a DJ, pandora or itunes, and thus we now compete against these individuals for the scarce gigs that are available. you have to "market " youself to be appealing.
The music industry is a hogwash of several types. and there is no right or wrong way to do it. you just have to find out what works for you.

This was by far the best Open Mic yet. I want to thank all of the musicians and the patrons who attended Saturday's Open Mic at the Hideout in Fuquay. This was the third time we have done it and it really went over well. We are going to keep going - eve

The night started with a great jam from members of Stone Creek and Name Taken. Roy, Rob and Rich, great jamming with you. We had a real rocking originals set put on by FSM. We look forward to their return in the future. Singer songwriter Rebecca Lynn was in the house sounding as good as ever. She played some new original material, some covers, and even sat in on a jam with various musicians there. Skippy Skip played some 80s music and an original. The night ended with a smoking set from a group of musicians in the house. Jimi Cole played lead and really ripped it up. He was on fire a few times, that was great to see...
I look forward to January 21. If you want to participate send me an email and we will get you down. I have some bands/musicians already lined up for future dates, and there is plenty of room for more. Keep Rockin.
